What is the BRU Tumbler?
The BRU Tumbler is a manual brew-to-go tumbler designed to let you brew fresh coffee wherever you go. Its integrated brewing system combines a stainless-steel mesh filter with an insulated tumbler, allowing you to brew and enjoy your coffee from the same cup.
Is the BRU Tumbler an automatic coffee maker?
No. The BRU Tumbler is a manual brew-to-go system. Simply add coffee grounds, pour in hot water, let it brew, remove the filter basket, and enjoy.
How much does the BRU Tumbler hold?
The BRU Tumbler has a 16 fl oz / 475 ml capacity, making it a convenient size for your daily coffee or tea.
Does the BRU Tumbler require paper filters?
No. The BRU Tumbler comes with a precision stainless-steel mesh filter, so paper filters are not required.
The stainless-steel mesh allows natural coffee oils to pass through for a fuller-bodied cup. If you prefer a cleaner cup with less fine sediment, you can also place a paper filter inside the mesh basket.
What grind size should I use?
We recommend a medium-coarse grind for the best results.
A consistent grind from a burr grinder helps promote even extraction and reduces fine coffee particles.
Pre-ground coffee can also be used. However, very fine grounds may pass through the mesh or slow the flow of water.
How much coffee and water should I use?
For a great starting point, we recommend:
* Coffee: 16 g
* Water: 350 ml
* Water temperature: 90–95°C / 195–203°F
* Brew time: 3–4 minutes
You can adjust the coffee-to-water ratio, grind size, and brew time to suit your taste.
Can I drink directly from the BRU Tumbler?
Yes. After brewing, simply remove the filter basket and enjoy your coffee directly from the tumbler.
Can I use pre-ground coffee?
Yes. Pre-ground coffee works with the BRU Tumbler. However, we recommend a medium-coarse grind because very fine coffee particles can pass through the mesh or slow the flow.
Why is there some fine sediment at the bottom of my coffee?
The stainless-steel mesh filter allows natural coffee oils and some micro-fine coffee particles to pass through. A small amount of sediment is normal and is similar to what you may experience with a French press.
For a cleaner cup, use a consistent medium-coarse grind or place a paper filter inside the mesh basket.
How can I prevent coffee grounds from getting into my cup?
For the cleanest brew:
* Use a consistent medium-coarse grind
* Avoid using excessive fine coffee dust
* Avoid aggressive stirring during brewing
* Make sure the filter basket is properly seated
* For even less sediment, use a paper filter inside the mesh basket
Why does my coffee taste weak?
If your coffee tastes too weak, try increasing the amount of coffee grounds or adjusting your grind slightly finer.
As a starting point, try 16 g of coffee with 350 ml of water and brew for 3–4 minutes. You can then adjust the ratio to suit your preferred strength.
Why does my coffee taste bitter or astringent?
Bitter or astringent flavors can result from over-extraction, which may happen when the coffee is ground too fine or brewed for too long.
Try:
l Using a slightly coarser grind
l Keeping the brew time around 3–4 minutes
l Using a consistent grind with less fine coffee dust
l Using a paper filter inside the mesh basket if you prefer a cleaner cup
Why is the water flowing slowly through the filter?
Very fine coffee particles can settle into the mesh and slow the flow.
For better flow:
l Use a medium-coarse grind
l Avoid excessive stirring while brewing
l Rinse the mesh filter thoroughly after each use
Can I use the BRU Tumbler for cold brew?
Yes. The BRU Tumbler can be used for cold coffee and cold-brew-style preparation. Because cold brewing requires a longer extraction time, adjust the coffee-to-water ratio and brewing time according to your preferred recipe. For best results, use a medium-coarse grind.
Remove the filter basket when you’re ready to drink for a smoother taste.
Can I use the BRU Tumbler for loose-leaf tea?
Yes. The BRU Tumbler can also be used to brew loose-leaf tea. Simply add your tea leaves to the filter basket, add hot water, and let the tea steep to your preferred strength.
You can leave the tea leaves in the basket while drinking. If your tea becomes too strong or bitter, simply remove the filter basket to stop further extraction.
Can I use the BRU Tumbler for infused water?
Yes. The BRU Tumbler can be used for fruit- and herb-infused water. Add your favorite ingredients, such as lemon, lime, berries, cucumber, or mint, to the filter basket, then add water and let the flavors infuse.
How do I clean the BRU Tumbler?
Remove the filter basket, discard the used coffee grounds, and wash the basket and tumbler with warm, soapy water.
For best results, rinse the stainless-steel mesh filter thoroughly after each brew to remove coffee oils and fine particles.
Prefer using a dishwasher? Place the lid fully open and the stainless-steel mesh filter on the top rack of the dishwasher.
Is the BRU Tumbler dishwasher safe?
For best results, we recommend hand washing the BRU Tumbler. While some components may be dishwasher safe, regular dishwasher use may affect the tumbler’s finish and appearance over time.
Hand washing with warm, soapy water will help maintain the BRU Tumbler’s appearance and performance.
Is the BRU Tumbler leakproof?
The BRU Tumbler is designed with a secure lid and seal to help prevent leaks during everyday use when the lid is properly closed.
Because the lid features a snap-on tab, make sure the tab is fully secured before carrying the tumbler. When placing it in a bag, we recommend keeping the BRU Tumbler upright and positioning it so that other items cannot accidentally catch or activate the lid tab.
For added peace of mind, keep the BRU Tumbler upright whenever possible when carrying it with other belongings.
Is the BRU Tumbler insulated?
Yes. The BRU Tumbler features double-wall vacuum insulation designed to help maintain the temperature of your beverage while providing a comfortable exterior.
What is the BRU Tumbler made of?
The BRU Tumbler uses stainless steel for the insulated tumbler and precision stainless steel mesh for the brewing filter. The lid and other components are made from durable food-contact materials.
Is the BRU Tumbler difficult to use?
Not at all. The brewing process is simple:
1. Add coffee grounds.
2. Pour in hot water.
3. Brew for 3–4 minutes.
4. Remove the filter basket and enjoy.
Once you find your preferred coffee and grind size, you can easily adjust the recipe to make your coffee just the way you like it.
